Trust and safety

Every CatSitz sitter will have their identity verified, and a person will review every profile before it goes live. It is not a background or criminal record check, and we never describe it as one.

Here is what happens before, during and after a booking.

Before the booking

Checked before anyone can book them.

ID verification

Sitters will verify their identity with a government photo ID. Owners will see a sitter's first name and photo, never their full legal name.

Reviewed by a person

Every profile is reviewed by a person before it goes live. We also check changes to live profiles, and can remove any profile that doesn't meet our standards.

Message first, meet if you like

You can message a sitter before you book and, if you'd like, arrange to meet first, by call or in person. It's entirely optional.

Your Care Card holds the details

Food, medication, hiding places and your vet, plus a description of how to get in. It never holds access codes: you send those to your sitter in the booking chat once they've accepted.

What we do, and what we don't

Checks built for cat sitting.

What the check is

Identity verification and a person reading every profile. It is not a criminal record (DBS) check. We don't track anyone's live location.

Independent sitters

Every sitter on CatSitz is an independent member of the community who sets their own rate and manages their own availability.

Our conduct standard

Every sitter must have no conviction or finding that would be disclosed through our identity check, describe their experience honestly on their profile, communicate respectfully with owners and other sitters, and follow the platform's rules, including on cancellations and keeping bookings and payments on CatSitz.

During the booking

While you're away.

Updates after each visit

Sitters are expected to send a message and photo after each visit, so you can see how your cat is getting on.

Messages kept with the booking

Messages sent through CatSitz stay with your booking, so your instructions, updates and photos are in one place.

No location tracking

We don't track sitters' live location. We collect only what the booking needs.

After the booking

Closing the booking out.

Payment held for 48 hours

Your payment is held until 48 hours after the booking ends. The booking then completes automatically and your sitter is paid.

Time to raise a problem

If something needs raising, tell us within those 48 hours, before your sitter is paid.

Honest reviews

Reviews come from owners after completed bookings. We don't write reviews, and we don't remove genuine ones for being unflattering.

If something goes wrong

Tell us, and a person picks it up.

If a booking doesn't go the way it should, tell us, during the booking or after it's finished. The person raising the problem shares what happened, with any photos or messages. The other person has 72 hours to respond, and then someone at CatSitz reviews both sides.

An account can be paused while we look into something. Pausing is not a verdict. Anything involving a cat's welfare is always looked into.

Cat-only home visits and overnight stays across London. Five per cent of everything CatSitz earns, after our sitters are paid, goes to cat welfare charities.
