Local detail

Cats in City of London

The City of London is mostly offices, but around 8,000 people live there, and their cats live in a handful of places: the Barbican, the Golden Lane Estate, the Middlesex Street estate near Aldgate, and a scattering of flats around Smithfield, Fleet Street and the riverside. Almost every home is a flat, often several floors up, so City cats are nearly all indoor cats, some with a balcony. That makes a sitter's visit matter even more: it is often the only company and play a cat gets in a day. Access is usually through a porter, a concierge desk or a fob, and the Barbican's walkways and numbered blocks can confuse a first-time visitor, so it helps to describe the route clearly on your Care Card, including which entrance and lift to use. Send any codes to your sitter in the booking chat once they've accepted. With almost every Tube line and the Elizabeth line nearby, and many sitters living in the neighbouring boroughs, getting to you for a morning and an evening visit is straightforward.
