Local detail

Cats in Havering

Havering is London's easternmost borough, taking in Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Harold Wood, Rainham and Collier Row, with Essex countryside on three sides. Much of it is green belt, and most homes are suburban houses with gardens: interwar semis and bungalows across Hornchurch, Upminster and Gidea Park, and larger estates in Harold Hill and Collier Row. Romford town centre has flats and new blocks near the station. That makes Havering a borough where many cats come and go through a cat flap into gardens that back onto each other, and foxes are common; those in the town-centre flats and near busy roads like the A12 and the A127 are more likely to be kept indoors. Hornchurch Country Park, Havering Country Park and Rainham Marshes give the area a lot of open space. Most visits start at a front door or a keysafe, so it helps to describe where the key is kept and which doors and windows to check before leaving on your Care Card, and send any codes to your sitter in the booking chat once they've accepted. With the District line, the Elizabeth line at Romford and c2c trains, a local sitter can keep to your cat's routine.
