Local detail

Cats in Islington

Islington is one of the most densely populated places in the country, and most of its cats live in flats: Georgian and Victorian terraces split into conversions around Barnsbury, Canonbury and Highbury, mansion blocks near Highbury Fields, and large estates from Archway down to King's Cross. Gardens are small where they exist at all, so many cats here are kept indoors, with a balcony or a shared garden at most. A visit usually means a buzzer, a communal hallway and stairs, and in newer blocks a concierge or fob entry, so a clear description of the way in on your Care Card saves time on the first visit. Codes go to your sitter in the booking chat, never on the card. The Victoria, Northern and Piccadilly lines and the Overground all cross the borough, and a sitter a few streets away can fit morning and evening visits around their own day. Islington has plenty of older, settled indoor cats and shy rescues, so a sitter who takes things slowly and sticks to the routine matters more than anything.
