Local detail

Cats in Kensington and Chelsea

Kensington and Chelsea is small and tightly built, from North Kensington and Notting Hill down through Holland Park and South Kensington to Chelsea and the river. Its cats live in stucco terraces and garden squares, mansion blocks, mews houses and, in the north, large estates. Many homes are flats inside converted period houses, often several floors up, and many cats here are kept entirely indoors. Where there is outdoor space, it's often a small garden, a roof terrace or a shared communal garden behind a square, which cats may reach through a window or a back door. Visits are just as varied: a porter or concierge in a mansion block, a basement flat with its own entrance, or a buzzer and a narrow staircase. It helps to describe the way in on your Care Card and send any codes to your sitter in the booking chat once they've accepted. With the Central, Circle, District and Piccadilly lines crossing the borough, a sitter who lives nearby can keep to your cat's usual times.
