Local detail

Cats in Westminster

Westminster covers the West End and Whitehall, but most of its cats live in the residential areas around them: Pimlico, Belgravia, Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Bayswater, Paddington, Maida Vale and St John's Wood. Almost all are flats, from Georgian and Victorian conversions to mansion blocks and large estates such as those in Pimlico and around Church Street, so most cats here are kept indoors, some with a balcony or access to a communal garden. Maida Vale and St John's Wood have more houses and garden squares. Visits usually start at a porter's desk, a concierge or a buzzer, often followed by a lift or several flights of stairs, and busy streets make an open window or a door left ajar more of a worry than in quieter boroughs. Describe the way in on your Care Card, including anything the porter needs to know, and send any codes to your sitter in the booking chat once they've accepted. Almost every Tube line runs through the borough, so a sitter nearby can reach you quickly and keep to your cat's morning and evening routine.
